Reader’s Question:

What will happen if I decide not to report a car accident to my car insurance provider here in Palm Beach, Florida immediately?

Juanito

Palm Beach, FL

Very good question. It will be to your advantage to contact your auto insurance provider there in Palm Beach, Florida, in the event you get involved in a car accident or collision. Not doing so would be seen by your auto insurance provider as suspicious (who wouldn’t want to get paid or covered immediately from damages to their car that was caused by someone else?) and you might have a much harder time filing for a claim later on. If you were the one at-fault in a car accident, not informing your auto insurance provider immediately about the accident might be used against you in the court, if the other party decides to sue you for damages, injuries or both.

If you were the one whose vehicle got damaged, or incurred bodily injuries you need to inform your auto insurance carrier right away so the appropriate settlement can be processed immediately. If you are able to supply all the necessary information to your insurance provider regarding the other party who caused the accident, your carrier will be able to contact the at-fault party’s own insurance carrier to facilitate processing of your claims, as well as payment of medical or hospital bills if any, as well as repair to your vehicle. You wouldn’t want to pay out-of-pocket for all this yourself, right? To put it simply, there should be no reason that you (or someone you know, if you are not able to) are not able to inform your auto insurance provider about the car accident.

What will happen to my auto insurance policy here in Palm Beach, Florida should I get caught driving drunk?

Will

Palm Beach, FL

Hi Will, should you get caught driving under the influence (DUI or DWI) or get involved in any serious type of vehicular violations, then you can expect some very heavy consequences not only from your car insurance provider there in palm Beach but from the state of Florida as well. The law is very serious about drunk driving, car accidents and traffic violations. And the repercussions are also far reaching, something you will have to live with and work hard to rectify for the next two to three years.

Most likely your auto insurance coverage will either get canceled or your insurance premiums gets dramatically inflated but thats going to be the least of your problems. Your driver’s license might get temporarily suspended until you pay some healthy fees, thats if you’re not sentenced to spend some time behind bars . If you’re insurance does get canceled there are still insurance providers out there who’s willing to take in high-risk driver. Yes, you’re going to be considered a high-risk driver and get all the perks that come with it such as sky high rates and having to file and maintain an SR22 (proof of financial responsibility) for at least a couple of years. It’s going to be a dreadful experience in exchange for those few bottles of suds. So why risk it?

Reader’s Question:

Why do you think I should consider getting collision coverage for my auto insurance here in Palm Beach, Florida?

Kali

Palm Beach, FL

Collision auto insurance is just an option because not all drivers could see the need for the additional expense of adding it the auto insurance policy. But collision coverage could more than pay for itself the very first time that you utilize it. This type of car insurance would give you coverage in case you hit somebody else’s automobile and would also give you coverage if you hit an animal or anything that would damage your vehicle.

Collision auto insurance would pay the cost that is needed to repair for your car, minus the cost of your deductible. To be able to keep the premium rates as low as possible, you must choose the highest deductible you think you could afford in case of an accident. In case the vehicle you own is an older model, it could be to your advantage to remove this option. That’s because if an older vehicle is involved in a crash and is damaged, the cost that collision coverage would pay is only as much as the cash value of the vehicle. Taking into consideration all these things, you can decide whether or not to get collision coverage for your auto insurance in Palm Beach, Florida.

I just got my driver’s license and I will be getting my own car insurance soon here in Palm Beach, Florida. In case an accident happens, what does the insurance law say that I should have?

Carolina

Palm Beach, FL

Owners and operators of motor vehicles are mandated by the Florida Financial Responsibility Law to be financially responsible for damages and/or injuries they could cause to others when a car accident happens. This law would require you to have liability insurance in Palm Beach, Florida at the time of the following:

-An accident where you’re at fault and injuries have happened
-A suspension because of too many points against your driver’s license
-A revocation because of being a Habitual Traffic Offender
-A revocation for any serious violation where your license is ordered to be revoked

You should have the following minimum insurance coverage:

-$10,000 Bodily Injury Liability (BIL)
-$20,000 Bodily Injury Liability to two or more individuals
-$10,000 Property Damage Liability (PDL), or
-$30,000 Combined single limits

Your driver’s license would be suspended for up to three years if you commit any of the aforementioned offenses and you don’t have insurance to abide with the financial responsibility law.

Reader’s Question:

My cousin was charged with DUI here in Palm Beach, Florida and I see that he worries too much about his auto insurance. What can he expect from his insurance company after his drunk driving charge?

Margaret

Palm Beach, FL

Most auto insurance companies check their client’s motor vehicle record once a year. Some auto insurance companies do check it only once every three years or when the client is applying for a new insurance policy. Sometimes, tickets, drunk driving or DUI convictions and accidents could escape the auto insurance company’s attention. If your cousin’s auto insurance company finds out about his DUI charge, especially if he gets convicted, he will see higher premium rates and possibly he might have the task of seeking a new auto insurance company because his current auto insurance company might not renew his coverage.

There are usually two ways that auto insurance companies deal with customers who have DUI charge. Including your cousin’s DUI case in Palm Beach, Florida, the first possible thing that would happen is that the auto insurance provider might cancel the policy. It would also be possible that the auto insurance company would raise the premiums due to increasing the “point” count, almost to the point of “unaffordability.” In case this happens, he can check out other auto insurance providers and he can absolutely find a good auto insurance through getting an online rate quote from this website.

Reader’s Question:

Nearly two years ago, I have a DUI conviction here in Palm Beach, Florida. Like other people convicted with DUI, I had a really hard time going back to my old life. I just wanna know, how long does a DUI conviction stay on my record?

Harper

Palm Beach, FL

Since you have a DUI conviction in Palm Beach, Florida almost two years ago, that DUI conviction stays on your record effectively for life and some other states have similar laws as well regarding DUI conviction. A DUI conviction in the state of Florida is not always a misdemeanor. If a person has the third DUI charged and his/her last DUI is within the past 10 years, the person may be charged with a felony DUI. Moreover, motorists with multiple, serious, driving convictions are declared “habitual traffic offenders.” An individual who is driving after being declared a habitual traffic offender commits a felony merely by driving unless that individual has obtained a valid business purpose license from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

A DUI conviction can result in possible restrictions on credit or denial of job opportunities because the conviction is a public record and is typically retrieved by credit reporting agencies. Also, a DUI conviction can cause an increase in premiums or cancellation of your car insurance. In the past 10 years, many rental car companies have begun denying rental privileges to a person with a DUI conviction for as long as 6 years after a DUI conviction.
